The Best Social Media Networks for Marketing Your Campground

Adding social media to your campground’s marketing strategy can seem like a no-brainer, but actually executing that plan might be more difficult. It can be hard if you don’t know where to start or which platforms you should use.

That’s why we’re breaking down why social media is a great addition to your promotional strategy and which channels are the best for campgrounds! Let’s get started:

Why Is Social Media Important In My Campground’s Marketing Strategy?

Social media is where travelers spend their time. Whether they’re influencers, users sharing photos from their trips, or potential guests looking for inspiration for their next adventure, most of your audience is using social media in one way or another.

You might wonder: how many people really use social media? Backlinko found that a remarkable 93.33% of all internet users are on social media and 85% of mobile internet users are active on the networks.

Not only are your key audience members on social media, but they’re also likely active on more than one platform! “In-depth analysis of data collected by GWI shows that at least 98 percent of the users of any given social media platform use at least one other social platform,” according to DataReportal’s Digital 2021: Global Overview Report. The same report found: “The audiences of individual social platforms are also subject to significant overlaps, with 85 percent of TikTok users aged 16 to 64 saying they use Facebook, and almost 95 percent of Instagram users saying they also use YouTube.”

The numbers keep growing, too. Just last year, more than half a billion users joined social media networks, according to Hootsuite’s Digital 2021 July Global Statshot Report

Social media is continuously growing and evolving, which means the opportunity to reach new audiences is never-ending.

What Platforms Are Best for Marketing Campgrounds?

Now that you know your customers are on social media, it’s time to connect with them

Before we go over specific platforms, you should consider what is best for you. Think about your previous campers and their demographics — which channels would the majority of them likely be spending time on? For example, older individuals may more likely be on Facebook, whereas younger travelers are adopting newer platforms, like TikTok

You should also take a look at and consider your competitors’ social media profiles. You can see the number of followers they have, what type of content they post, and what their engagement is like to help you determine if you need to focus on the same channels. Remember, you’ll want to remain competitive in the spaces where your competitors already are while adopting new platforms they haven’t joined yet so you can own the space!

Here are some of the social networks you should consider joining to market your campground and connect with your audience:

  • Pinterest. Like Instagram, this platform allows you to showcase your campground’s beauty visually. The user intent is slightly different with Pinterest as more users search for “how-to” and “top places” results, allowing you to become a valued resource for travelers!
  • TikTok. This platform recently reached 1 billion average monthly active users and shows no signs of slowing down, particularly among the younger generations. This video-based platform allows you to showcase the personality of your campgrounds, team, and local area in short-form videos.
